October 14, 2014
Today we talked about webpage construction with weebly.com. Mr. Parker showed us his webpage: keyschoolarthouse.weebly.com. We talked about how we are going to be graded. We went through the scope and sequence. I'm excited to work with Photoshop and really excited to work with the 3D printer later on. Mr. Parker's email is [email protected].
October 15, 2014
Today we created placeholders for our webpages on Weebly. Then we started with Photoshop; Mr. Parker compared layers to transparencies. The brush tool can be used just like a regular paintbrush and paints on whatever layer you have selected. The foreground color can be changed to change what color you color in with the brush tool. Multiple layers can be added on one image, which is saved as a JPEG at the end.

Ctrl+Backspace is a shortcut to fill background to background color. Ctrl+Z will undo your last action. If you need to undo a step more than one step back, go to Windows-History, and then go to whatever step you want to go to.
October 17, 2014
If you want to deselect whatever you have selected, press Ctrl+D. To copy a selected area, press Ctrl+C, and pasting is Ctrl+V. To merge a layer with the one below it, press Ctrl+E, and to merge all visible press Shift+Ctrl+E. Use Ctrl+T to transform a layer. To look at a superimposed grid, go to View-Show-Grid. Paint bucket tool, which uses foreground color, is under the gradient tool. The crop tool is on the tool bar, fourth from top. Most problems can be solved by checking for a check mark or what layer you are on.
October 20, 2014
Today we worked with the grid and the layer styles menu, under Layer-Layer Styles-Stroke. This will add a border around your selected figure. The eyedropper tool, when clicked on a color, automatically changes the foreground color to that color. The smudge tool is near the middle.
October 21, 2014
The magic eraser, under eraser, will delete regions of the same color. Ctrl+J will create a new layer based on the selected area. Set a brush by selecting it and going to edit-define brush preset.
October 22, 2014
Today in my recreation, I forgot to add a bevel to the Bling layer. I also forgot how to add a blurred edge to the shadow. I MacGyvered the sparkles, I forgot how to make them be on the top layer no matter what.
October 23, 2014 - Bling Walk Through
To make a piece of text a lot bigger, make the text box the minimum possible size, then Ctrl+T to make it bigger. Layer-Layer Styles has inner glow, bevel and emboss, stroke, gradient overlay, pattern overlay etc. To blur the edges of something, go to Filter-Blur-Gaussian Blur.
October 24, 2014
Alt+Ctrl+Shift when opening photoshop will revert to factory default settings. Wind is Filter-Stylize-Wind. To force rasterization, go to Layer-Rasterize-Type. To rotate, go to Edit-Transform-choose your rotation method. To go back more than one step, go to Window-History.
Week 3
October 27, 2014
To rasterize, go to Layer-Rasterize-Type. To distort a piece of text, even if you have already been prompted to rasterize, you probably need to rasterize again using the afore mentioned path. Then go to Edit-Transform-Distort.
October 28, 2014
Today we were making a fire gif. We created a consistent template and replicated it multiple times, then used the smudge tool to create flames on top of these. Then we used a color balance layer (the pokemon ball in the bottom right corner) to create the color of flames. We went to Window-Timeline and clicked "create video timeline" to create our gif. Then we went to view frame animation, the bottom left button. To create smooth transitions, we used the tween button next to new frame. To change the exposure time of a frame, click on the time below it in the frame window.
October 29, 2014
Ctrl+i gives inversion of color. Be careful when using the magic eraser because sometimes little bits are left. The color balance should always be on top of the layers you want it to show on.
October 30, 2014
To make a work path, have a text layer selected and the text tool selected. Then right click on the edge of the text then select create a work path. Then in a new layer, make the appropriate brush. Select the pen tool while on the new layer, right click when there is a vertical cross on the edge of the path. Then stroke path and delete the text and path. To adjust the brush, go to Window-Brush and select your desired settings.
Week 4
November 3, 2014
To create a work path from a selected area, go to the path tab and click the button that looks like a set of crosshairs near the bottom right hand corner. Then, to type along the path, select the type tool and hold it on the path, then click and type as usual. To hide a path, press Ctrl+h to do so. The eraser tool can be used on text if the text is rasterized. The character palette, for type options, is under Windows-Character.
November 4, 2014
To arch text, select the text, and the second to last tool on the top bar is warp text. Select Arc. To add in a brush you save from another place, .abr, go to the setting looking button in the brushes window and click load brush, then select it.
November 5, 2014
You can use the pen tool and click with anchor points to make a work path.
November 6, 2014
I made a fabulous project today. I made a flowchart gif that goes Acquire Data, Answer Questions, Repeat. I wanted a simple look to the project, so I used simple colored borders around the text. First, open Photoshop and go to File-New and make it 6 inches wide by 5 inches tall. In the left side bar near the bottom, click on the square behind the other square. Then, click in the far bottom left corner of the color window that appears. Press Ok and then Ctrl+Bksp. Next, click the T on the left sidebar and drag a box on the background. Type "School:" Press the check mark at the top and then press Ctrl+T. Drag the corners of the text box to the desired size. Highlight the text and turn the font white by using the color selection panel on the top bar. Create a new layer by pressing the button to the left of the bottom right most corner. It resembles a sticky note and will be used to create a new layer. Next, click the second to top tool on the left toolbar. Drag a rectangle on the background the size you want the border to be for the first box for the flow chart. Then, select white as a background color and press Ctrl+Bksp again to fill the box white. Then press Ctrl+D to deselect the box. Press Ctrl+J three times to copy the layer thrice. Create another box on top in a new layer that will be where the border ends and the text begins; it should have a black background. Copy this layer once. Create a text box saying Acquire Data. Transform it to the desired size and center it in the border. Now, in one of the copies of the white border, use the Transform tool to move it below the first box. Click the check mark and do this with the other black box. Now, on the remaining white boxes, change their color to an orange you like and move them so that they are on top of the white boxes, but below them and the text in the layer window to the right. Press the eyes next to these orange layers to hide them. Then, using the rectangular selection tool, the one you used to make the borders, drag out a small path between the two boxes in a new layer. In the same layer, drag a small path from the bottom of the second box and fill it white. Then, leaving space for a small text box, drag out another small path, still pointing down. Now, drag out a path from the end of the last smaller path to the left. Another one up so that its end is across from the middle of the left side of the first box. After making a small path from the end of that line towards the top box, select the pen tool. Clicking to make vertices, make a triangular arrow head. Then, right click while hovering over one of the vertices. Press fill path with foreground as white. Clicking on the path tab on the center of the right side, drag the workpath into the bottom right corner trashcan. Now, press Ctrl+J again. Using the paint bucket tool on the left and orange as the foreground color, click on some part of the arrow you made. Now, create a text box in the space you left and put in "Repeat" in white text. Now, copy all your text layers and change them all to orange.
ADD IN HOW TO MAKE SUMMER FRAME
Go to Window-Timeline. Press Create New Timeline at the bottom of the screen and then the three boxes in the bottom left corner. Select the eyes on

7 November, 2014
Continued yesterday's work.
11 November, 2014
If you want to make a gif with different timing between the slides, go to Window-Timeline, then create one. Then, on the timing between the sides, set it to either .1, .2, .5, or 1 second. In order to create totally different scenes in a gif, just have a bunch of different layers and select which ones you want in each one.
12 November, 2014
We took an image from OPI and we copied it into a new layer. Then we made a new layer between these two and filled it white. We created a text box on top of it all and adjusted it through Window-Character. Then, on the top layer, we went to Layer-Create Clipping mask. To create a watermark, we selected the text layer and went to Layer-Layer Styles-Outer Glow. From bottom to top, the layers are the original image, the white background, the text box, the top copy of the original with the clipping mask.
13 November, 2014
Today we are trying to go a bit further with the text clipping mask. We are putting a separate image behind each picture. In order to do this, copy an image that you have open in another tab onto a project as a new layer. Drag it to the size you want for a letter and then put a single letter in a text box over it. Drag it to the desired size and then move it under the picture. On the picture layer, go to Layer-Create Clipping Mask. Repeat the same process with the other letters. Then add layer styles as needed. Simply add these other layers on top of the other letter and picture layers, they won't interfere because of the clipping mask.
14 November, 2014
Today we finished up our clipping mask projects. We put different images behind other silhouettes. To do that, you simply select the silhouette you want and put that under the image that will fill. Then, go to Layer-Create Clipping Mask.
17 November, 2014
Today we just continued iPod commercials. More cutting out, filling, and adding snappy text.
18 November, 2014
I found that I spend a lot of time cutting things out of pictures with the pen tool. I wish there was another way to get the good cut I like, nice and smooth, but I find this way gives the best results. Luckily it all gets filled in anyways, so if I can just make it smooth, the silhouette should turn out fine.
19 November, 2014
We finished iPod commercial projects today. I was doing an iCalculate, but I couldn't get the hands to look right. I ended up adding some lines, but I still don't quite like it. But it is reasonably good so I think I'll use it anyways.
20 November, 2014
I worked on my nine weeks project today.
1 December, 2014
Today we started doing our projects with different tones highlighted different colors. First, I cut out myself from a picture and put it in a new layer. Then, we added a background below in a separate layer. We went to Select-Color Range, and selected each highlighted, midtones, and shadows and copied each into separate layers. Then we went to Edit-Fill and selected foreground color. Then we stacked the layers highlights, midtones, shadows, background. Fin.
2 December, 2014
testing testing !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Many technical issues were had today. Ugh.
3 December, 2014
Today, we've been doing more color range selections. I made a cool one of myself sitting with a nice color scheme. I used a gradient in the back.
4 December, 2014
Today we started using a cool new tool, under Image-Adjustments-Posterize. It's a bit like what we've been doing except you can have more layers. It also selects them all at once so with a desaturated image it's very nice. Using Select-Color Range, one can use the eye dropper tool to select all of a single color or in this case "layer."
Week 8
8 December, 2014
Today we continued posterization. We also experimented with threshold and cut out. I found that I liked threshold more because it lets you have a nice border between your two color ranges. I find that sometimes in posterization you get a weird line down your face if you have a certain number of layers. This lets you choose that. I like having some more options, but it's still good.
9 December, 2014
I was sick this day. To make up for missing class, I came into the lab before school started and for half a period during my free period. I finished my Banksy. I took a picture of a lego sculpture, cut it out of the picture, desaturated it, and used a threshold to give a good contrast. However, I found that the majority was white, so I used Image-Adjustments-Invert to flip the colors. Then I selected the color range for white and deleted it. I copied it into the picture of a wall and transformed it to the right size. Then I added text saying "Cities always rise" and touched both things with an eraser on 10% opacity. I also worked more on my second nine-weeks project.
10 December, 2014
Today we used the liquify tool on pictures of ourselves. To use it, go to Filter-Liquify. Then, on the left hand side, you can see multiple tools. The top one will stretch out what ever you have selected in the brush over your cursor's path. The one below it restores things to their original place. The third will pull things towards the center. The fourth will push out from the center.
11 December, 2014
Today I worked on finishing and writing up my nine weeks projects.
12 December, 2014
Casey:
I like the clipping mask of the hippie with a groovy fill. It is simple, yet tasteful and represents a different time and place. Ball was also good, the font was a great choice for the patterns of the balls.
I like the iText image. It has a real nice silhouette. However, I don't like the iDontknowwhatweregoingtodotoday because of the lens flare, just like iSpy.
Heart Throb is a testament to the arts and will live on in history. I would hang it in my room.
The second posterize image has a nice color scheme, but I don't like the camera. The Rainbow is also a really good one.
The banksy is a bit strange.
There is an AWESOME liquify of a hourglass looking face.
The top nine weeks project has a nice animation, but the colors are a bit weird.
The hunt or be hunted is...interesting. The seal head is a nice touch.
Ciara:
The fried chicken is a really nicely done one. The strips are the right size to fill the chicken but not take up too little or too much. Starbucks is a nice pattern.
iBelieve has a great shadow.
There is a great Warhol, the one with Ciara in redish tones and someone else in blueish tones.
The posterize of Ciara in a dress was very nicely split up. The one with sunglasses is really good.
The text is a bit hard to read on the Banksy.
For the record, I resent your depiction of Jim Parsons, but it is nicely executed.
The Tardis/Dalek gif is great, I love the flyby of the Tardis.
The second one is great idea having the text, but the background is a bit strange.
Evan:
I am a fan of the Cosmos clipping mask. It is nicely placed. The Bird picture is a bit pretentious. I like the mouse one, it's pretty clever.
iBeanie is a very nicely cut out silhouette. iCalculate has weird hands.
I like the color scheme in the green background.
I like the 6 tone posterize one. It has a nice texture.
Banksy is very good, good message.
The Viva Fiesta is a great picture that I would have as a poster.
The School piece is okay, but the summer screen is a bit brief
The GoT one is fantastic.
Mady:
The ewok clipping mask is very nice.
The iWeird is pretty good, I like the bit of color.
The Bill Gates Warhol is pretty bad, mostly due to the subject.
The teddy bear posterize is a pretty good color scheme. the posterize with the sort of dab backround is very nice.
Banksy is very nicely done, just present enough.
The liquify tool has some interesting results.
The Epic Battle is okay, though it isn't really an epic battle because Steve Jobs will definately win. APPLE FOREVER!
Nia:
The Coca-Cola clipping mask is creat.
iCelebrate is a great color scheme, and has nice action. Great 4-image image
the yellow posterize is pretty good. The khaki green background one is great.
Banksy has an inspiring quote.
Liquify will give me nightmares. M-m-mommy?
The Weeping Angel is great, I love the, OH CRAP WHERE DID IT GO? DON'T BLINK!
The silhouette in Spaced Out is great. The text is a bit blocky.
Nikola:
The Lotus clipping mask is really nice, it has elegant color. Beach is also nice, but a bit blurry.
iLeer is a great one. iAm is a bit weird at first, but good.
The Tokool4school is pretty good, nice drop shadow.
The first posterize image is really nice, great colors, great lines, just very nice.
Banksey is pretty good. nice cut out.
Creepy second to bottom image in liquify.
Life is a Highway is pretty good, but a bit simplistic.
The Holiday Tree is nice, the leaves are great floating around.

Week 10
16 March, 2015
Today we used the clone stamp, which looks like a stamp and is in the left hand toolbar. We also started making "tiny planets" using polar coordinates: Filter-Distort-Polar Coordinates. To keep it from being inside out, rotate it 180 degrees first.
17 March, 2015
Today I continued with the tiny world project. I spent quite a while trying to blend together the sky in a picture of Seattle at sunset. However, I couldn't get the glowing orange to mix with the golden yellow. I tried blur, smudge, and clone stamp, but in the end I just settled for a slightly smudged boundary.
18 March, 2015
I found that night skyline pictures give an interesting effect in the tiny planet pictures. Their light reflecting in the water creates lines and segments that point towards the center, creating a sort of radial design. I did this once and then again in a gif just for fun. The planet was collapsing.
19 March, 2015
Today I created a cool little bubble using symmetry on a forest skyline. I copied one half of the picture into a new layer, flipped it horizontally and moved it to line up with the other half.
20 March, 2015
I started on my Sandy Skoglands today. My animal one is a black and white diner with red panthers. It is coming along well, though it bothers me that some are clearly different panthers.
Week 11
23 March, 2015
To create half tone patterns, go to Filter-Filter Gallery-Sketch-Halftone Pattern. To add in a speech bubble, choose the custom shape tool (near text tool). Then at the top choose Shape and choose the speech bubble.
24 March, 2015
Work was slowed down today by technical difficulties. Yesterday I went on a photo shoot with Mady and Ciara, but we could not get the pictures off of Nia's phone, which we had used since it had the best camera. Mady is trying to solve this right now.
25 March, 2015
The Sandy Skoglands of an animal and one of something of my choice are done. I have red panthers in a gray diner and purple transformers in a green White House. To make precise trims to create a feeling of something being behind something, flip the layer on and off.
26 March, 2015
I have decided to work on my comic before I work on my Skogland of myself. I made a frame today of me calmly posing by a wall.
27 March, 2015
Continuing with my work on the comic, I've made a screen that says "Bang!" with an explosion sign behind it. You can make this by using the custom shape tool. Rotating them gives a nice offset. I also made a fight scene.
Week 12
30 March, 2015
While making a scene of myself hiding behind a tree today, I've realized that the thing I think separates a good extraction from a poor one is that there are few to no perfectly straight lines. There are few in the real world and thus a little variation in edges adds realism. I also made the last two scenes for my comic and assembled it all.
31 March, 2015
I finally started on my last Sandy Skogland today. I have a nice set of arena seats set to a warm amber and I will add in myself with the balance 0, 62,67. I made four extractions today and added them into the project.
1 April, 2015
I finished my last Skogland today. I found that it's important to scale things with distance to make them appear proportionally sized. The Edit-Transform-Scale tool works well.
2 April, 2015
Today marked the beginning of my penny arcade project. I am making a claw game that has a dragon head claw and a bunch of knights at the bottom. I think a construction paper look will work quite well in this instance.
Week 13
6 April, 2015
I made the knights today using only the pen tool. I think it turned out well, they look well shaped but aren't too realistic. It was a simple matter to animate it in a gif. That project is done.
7 April, 2015
While my penny arcade game was ok, I was urged today to try and make it more visually appealing. I changed the background to blue and added a wood texture to the booth. I also made a nice background for within the booth. I added a coin slot and a sword joystick. Finally, I made a flowing red banner above reading "Ye Olde Claw Game."
8 April, 2015
I worked on my brain picture today. I used a stock picture of a brain, but cut it and added filters to bring it into its own. The left side also had a white papyrus background while the right had a woody papyrus background. I worked on extracting sudoku pictures and code to add into the left side.
